Aberdeen shows its support for ladies’ golf

We’ve been sponsoring Mhairi McKay since 2006, and she’s been going from strength to strength. She returned from the US to play in the Aberdeen-sponsored Ladies Scottish Open in 2010 and will do so again in 2011.

Aberdeen and Mhairi McKay

Mhairi was the first woman golfer we sponsored. Our logo can be seen on her clothes when she competes in the Ladies European Tour (LET) and Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).

About Mhairi McKay

Mhairi was the first overseas player to be offered a golf scholarship at Stanford University in California where she was a classmate of Tiger Woods. She turned professional after graduation and qualified for the LPGA Tour at her first attempt.

She grew up in Girvan near the famous Turnberry golf links in Scotland where she learnt to play and is still a club member.

Mhairi has a son named Angus and lives in new Mexico, USA with her husband.

Mhairi’s career highlights include:

  • Second-place finishes on the LPGA Tour in 2001, 2002 and 2003
  • Maiden professional win in 2003 at the AAMI Women’s Australian Open
  • Representing Europe in the Solheim Cup in 2002 and 2003
  • Representing Scotland in the 2007 Women's World Cup of Golf where she and her partner Janice Moodie finished fourth
