In 2012 we announced our biggest golf sponsorship yet, that of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open. Played the week before The Open Championship, the Scottish Open regularly attracts one of the strongest fields on the European Tour calendar. It is proven as the perfect warmup for the Open, with six of the last Open champions having teed it up at the Scottish Open the week before. In 2017, it became part of the European Tour’s Rolex Series with a prize fund of US$7m, raising the event to a new level and further boosting the strength of player field.
Aberdeen Standard Investments has been a loyal supporter of Scottish golf for over 15 years and the Scottish Open is the jewel in our crown. As a global asset manager with offices in over 50 countries worldwide, the international reach of the tournament remains a big part of its attraction. The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open was the first European Tour event (outside of Major and World Golf Championships) to be shown live on US Network TV on NBC.
In 2017, the Scottish Open was played at Dundonald Golf Links and was won by Spaniard, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, in a thrilling playoff against Callum Skinkwin. Previous winners include Phil Mickelson (Castle Stuart Golf Links, 2013), who took his first European Tour victory the week before lifting the claret jug at the Open, Justin Rose (2014, Royal Aberdeen), Rickie Fowler (2015, Gullane Golf Club) and Alex Noren (2016, Castle Stuart Golf Links).
Gullane Golf Club is set to stage the 2018 Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open from 12-15 July. It will be the second visit to Gullane for an event that is appealing to even more of the world’s best players, enhancing an already world-class player field looking for competitive action on a links course the week before The Open.
