Managing our environmental footprint

By far our greatest environmental impact is indirect, through the investments that we hold. We do, however, work hard to reduce our direct impacts, recognising this is not only the right thing to do but also has business benefits including reducing utility costs.

Energy consumption and associated emissions, waste and business travel, remain our key areas of focus as reflected by our environmental targets. We have a group-wide Environmental Policy, which is reviewed by the global environmental committee on a regular basis, and are certified to ISO14001 in the UK.

Through our Environmental Management System (EMS), we have undertaken a range of initiatives to reduce our negative environmental impacts. Examples include the introduction of software to ensure that all PCs are switched off overnight; conducting a review of our waste disposal practices to identify areas for improvement and incorporating a wide range of energy saving measures across existing and new offices.

Further examples of our activities, as well as details on our environmental targets and performance, are detailed within our Corporate Stewardship report.

We also report data on carbon dioxide emissions to the Environment Agency for the purposes of CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme compliance and to the Carbon Disclosure Project.

We have been included in the CDP FTSE 350 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index and have achieved Carbon Trust certification in the UK.
